The Memorial House of Hope raffle is a fund-raising activity that benefits Bakersfield Memorial Hospital. It is not considered philanthropy in the traditional sense. Instead, the raffle is a gaming event, using the entertainment and top-dollar prize format to attract dollars in support of the hospital.

All money raised by the Bakersfield Memorial Hospital Foundation in conjunction with the Memorial House of Hope raffle stays in our community for Bakersfield Memorial Hospital capital projects and other hospital programs and services to help provide better healthcare for children and families throughout Kern County. Proceeds from the 2008 Memorial House of Hope raffle will be designated for the new West Tower construction project and expansion of the Bakersfield Memorial Hospital pediatrics and neonatal programs.

How many prizes are there? |

The Grand Prize in the Memorial House of Hope raffle is a new home, valued by Castle & Cooke at approximately $325,000, located in the Village Green neighborhood in Southwest Bakersfield. In addition to the Grand Prize home, other valuable prizes include a 2008 Mazda Tribute Hybrid, a 2008 Harley Davidson FXDC SuperGlide motorcycle, A trip to Hawaii from Uniglobe Travel, a $2,500 gift certificate from Houston Jewelers, a $2,500 gift certificate from The Pool Company, and a $1,000 shopping spree from Christine’s.

When does the raffle take place? |
A. |
The 2008 Memorial House of Hope raffle celebrates its inaugural public launch on March 3, 2008, when ticket sales begin. The raffle culminates on May 16, 2008, when the Grand Prize drawing of the new home will be conducted. Early Bird prize drawings will be conducted on three Fridays leading up to the Grand Prize drawing. Dates for the Early Bird drawings are April 4, 18, and May 2, 2008. Entry deadlines for the Early Bird prize drawings will be the close of business on the Tuesday immediately preceding the Early Bird drawing date.

Who is eligible to purchase raffle tickets? |

Purchasers must be a California resident, eighteen (18) years or older with valid driver’s license and social security number. (See official 2008 Memorial House of Hope raffle rules and regulations for complete eligibility details.)

How are the prizes drawn? |

An official representative of the Bakersfield accounting firm of Daniells, Phillips, Vaughan and Bock will conduct the prize drawings on behalf of the Bakersfield Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Yes. All ticket numbers are eligible to win the Grand Prize. All winning tickets drawn during the Early Bird drawings will be returned to the draw and included for the Grand Prize drawing. It is possible that a person who purchases only one ticket could win more than one prize.

House of Hope raffle tickets are $100.00 each. Individuals may purchase as many raffle tickets as they wish.

How does someone enter the raffle? |

Raffle tickets will be for sale to the general public beginning March 3, 2008 and may be purchased during regular business hours at (1) Green Frog Market locations, (2) Kern Schools Federal Credit Union locations, (3) San Joaquin Bank branches, (4) Bakersfield Memorial Hospital Gift Shop, and (5) the sales office in Castle & Cooke’s Village Green. Raffle tickets may also be reserved by calling the Bakersfield Memorial Foundation at 661-395-1259 during regular business hours or by completing a written reservation form.

Will I receive a ticket? |

Yes, every person that participates in the raffle will receive a ticket.

How will the winners be notified? |

Each winner will be notified by phone and in writing by certified, return receipt United States Mail. Early Bird prize winners will have seven (7) days to accept a prize. The Grand Prize winner will have fourteen (14) days to accept the prize.

What happens if a winning ticket has more than one name listed? |
A. |
In the event a winning ticket has more than one name listed, the prize will be awarded to the first name listed on the ticket.

What does a prize winner need to claim his/her prize? |

Winners will be required to present an original 2008 Memorial House of Hope raffle ticket with a number matching the number on the winning ticket. Winners may also be required to present valid photo identification. Acceptable forms of identification include a valid driver’s license, state identification card or passport.

What else do raffle ticket buyers need to know? |
A. |
The Memorial House of Hope raffle is a form of gaming and according to IRS ruling, the cost of the ticket does not qualify as a charitable deduction although it may qualify as a gambling deduction. Please consult your tax advisor for specific applicable tax rules. The IRS further requires that corresponding income tax withholding on prize values of $5,000 or greater must be paid prior to prize distribution. Prizes must be accepted as awarded with no “cash-in-lieu of” option, except where otherwise indicated in the official Memorial House of Hope raffle rules and regulations.
